Making butter like the Vikings

Today we were learning all about the science behind some Viking food production methods. We also did some research to learn about the modern production of dairy foods.

We made butter using a similar churning method that the Vikings would have used. We followed step by step instructions and carefully examined and described the taste, texture and appearance of the butter at each stage in the process, we careful timed and logged changes that occurred.

 After adding salt, as the Vikings did to help preserve their butter, we all had the chance to taste our finished product on some fresh crusty bread. Delicious!
